Harris Tweed and Horses for Courses at Cheltenham Festival

15th Mar 2016

Ahead of the opening of the famous Cheltenham Festival 2016, bookmaker William Hill, commissioned Alexander McQueen's apprentice Emma Sandham - King to make 3 piece suits for jockey, Sir J.P. McCoy and veteran race horse Morestead. Yes, you read that correctly a steed in tweed. Although I'm not sure who, between the 2 will be odds on favourite for the sharpest dresser.

Designer and celebrity stylist Emma Sandham - King said it was one of her biggest challenges. The horse was a pleasure to work with unlike some models who can be real divas. It took over 18 metres of Harris Tweed, 10 times the amount of material for a human plus considerable amount of expertise to create a hat, tailored jacket and trousers complete with a white buttoned shirt and tie.

Authentic Harris Tweed is one of the World's finest virgin wool cloths and lends itself for use in clothes, handbags, cabin bags, scarves, as well as a horse in a suit. Dyed, spun and woven all by hand in the Outer Hebrides, by local artisans it is protected by law and only if it meets all the criteria can it be labelled as authentic Harris Tweed.

This cloth was loved by the late Alexander McQueen who had ancestral ties with Scotland, regularly used it in his designs and displayed them on the catwalk.

If you love Scottish Harris Tweed, Attavanti has a fabulous range of handbags and cabin bags created by Italian designer Bonfanti that mixes tradition, style and design. Gorgeous tartan, plaid and herringbone to add a touch of class to your day at the races.

All Bonfanti Harris tweed bags carry the authentic Orb trademark that signifies that it is an authentic Harris Tweed.
