The Perfect Leather Briefcase

Posted by Attavanti on 5th Dec 2016

A good quality briefcase will last you a very long time so it's worth giving some consideration as to which one will suit your needs now and in the future. Our extensive collection of briefcases all sourced from small artisan suppliers based in Italy includes a range of styles and colours so you will be sure to find the perfect leather briefcase for you.

In choosing the perfect briefcase there are a number of aspects you need to consider, functionality, style, durability and cost. So lets look at each aspect individually to help you make an informed decision.

Functionality

Consider how you intend to use it. For instance will it need to accommodate a laptop. Most of our range of briefcases will be able to accommodate your tech, some even have a reinforced compartment for added protection such as the Pratesi Brunelleschi. This briefcase along with the rest of the Pratesi range also have a small LED light to help illuminate the interior. Do you require a number of compartments to help separate paperwork and files? It's worth thinking about what other objects or gadgets you tend to carry around with you and allow for this when choosing the required depth. There's also the option of having a pocket for a mobile phone. You may also consider choosing a briefcase with exterior pockets, these can be useful if you want to access something quickly, say tickets or a map. Then there is the different types of closure, some come with buckles or a zip and others will have a lockable snap and combination lock.

What would be your preferred preference on how to carry it? Many have the normal top handles. These briefcases will often come with a detachable shoulder strap and some are shoulder strap only. This may be useful if you have a long commute.

Style

There are many options when considering what style of briefcase to choose. Are you looking for a traditional briefcase such as the Chiarugi Italian leather briefcase or a contemporary but very professional looking Giorgio Fedon Classica 4? Maybe a more youthful style such as Bonfanti Genello satchel briefcase? We also have a fabulous range of bags specifically for the professional business woman, most striking is possibly the Fontanelli Aristea, a simply stunning slim briefcase which has been hand woven using a very soft leather.

You may even want to consider an attache case. A style originally preferred by diplomates but now considered the briefcase of choice for some professions. Here again we offer a choice from both Chiarugi and Pratesi both based in Florence Italy. This is one of our most popular models, Chiarugi traditional attache case.

For the frequent traveller you may want to choose one of our pilot briefcases. This combines a small suitcase within the briefcase and comes complete with trolley wheels and a telescopic handle. Both Pratesi and Chiarugi have there own versions.

Our briefcases are made with fine Italian leather making them a joy to hold and use but which type leather to choose? For instance we have aged leather, polished leather, grained and even saffiano leather. Each have their own particular look and feel.

The most popular colours are obviously black, brown and tan but maybe it's time to consider more of a statement colour. Pratesi for instance produce some fantastic briefcases in red, blue and green and Giorgio Fedon's key colour is orange.

Durability

Leather is such a lovely natural product. Hard wearing, water proof that looks better with age and well able to take the knocks of everyday life. All of our briefcases are handmade by skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques that have been past down from generation to generation. This ensures each briefcase is well constructed, robust and fit for purpose.

Cost

Finally and very importantly there is the question of cost. Our prices range from less than £200 to around £600. We think this represents good value for money considering these are handmade items, made in fine Italian leather. With Italian style built in, our briefcase will not only look great but will serve you well making them a good investment.

I hope this has helped you make an informed decision about which briefcase to buy. What you can be sure of is that it will be a joy to use and own. If you require more information about our briefcases, please email us at sales@attavanti.com
