How to Pack Your Luggage For A Short Trip

Giorgio Fedon Trolley Luggage

If you're anything like I used to be, over packing for a short trip away was the norm. After years of trying to close lids on suitcases and lugging the extra weight about, I have now learnt to be very disciplined about what I take.

The first thing to consider is the type of suitcase or holdall to choose. Remember the old adage, buy cheap, buy twice. A lot of people tend to think that because they only use their luggage occasionally that it's not worth spending too much on it. This is false economy! These days the cost of travelling is so much cheaper in relative terms and we all travel much more than we used to and because we use and abuse our luggage more, it's much more likely to let you down when you most need it. Maybe a wheel will fall off or the telescopic handle won't retract or most commonly the zip breaks. If you take a look at our range of suitcases and holdalls, it is apparent that they are all high quality so it is just down to personal choice. If it was me I would be a choose either the Roncato Premium Carbon 4 wheel cabin bag, the Giorgio Fedon trolley suitcase or the Maxwell Scott Greve large leather holdall. Of course there is the added bonus of having very stylish Italian luggage which is sure to attract a few admiring glances.

The just in case syndrome

The biggest mistake that most people make is packing extra things just in case. For instance, do you need to take that big jumper? Make this an informed choice by checking the weather forecast of your destination. If you do, could you wear it instead on your journey? Essentials like underwear are normally of little consequence and can be tucked around the edges but items like shoes take up a lot of space and are an awkward shape. So ask yourself, can you make do with just one pair? To answer that, think about the clothes you need to take. By choosing clothes options that work with the one pair of shoes then that will make a big difference. Obviously that is not always possible but least make the one pair the ones you wear on your journey. This can apply to say belts as well. Don't forget, if you do pack a pair of shoes use them as containers for smaller items. Jeans are always a good option to take because they are very versatile and perfect for travelling in as they don't show the creases and then worn in a smart casual way with say a formal shirt and jacket in the evening.

Folding your clothes correctly is a very good way of saving more space. Take a note of the way shirts and jumpers  are folded in clothes shops and copy that. This and leaving a little space in your case or holdall will give you the added benefit of your clothes being less creased when you reach your destination. Toiletries also need consideration. Obviously if you are flying you can only take miniatures of your toiletries in a separate clear bag and presented at the airport. I know the small toiletry options are more expensive but worth considering anyway even if you are not flying. However toilet bags are still a pretty essential. Not only is it more convenient and offers added protection but also protects your clothing from getting stained. We have many beautiful quality options to choose from, the Giorgio Fedon Toiletry Wash Bag is a particular favourite.

Of course, the added benefit to keeping your packing contained to one trolley suitcase means that you have no cases to check in at the airport so delays are kept to a minimum.
