To ring in the New Year, new decade and 2020, Pantone have chosen Classic Blue, Pantone 19-4052 as colour of the year (COTY.) Some say they have missed the mark and played it quite safe after the controversy of naming Living Coral, which supposedly represented the natural pigmentation of living coral the colour of 2019. The Classic Blue is a familiar shade inspired by the calming seas and the sky at dusk. Laurie Pressman the vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute which selects the Colour of the Year said " It's a colour that anticipates what's going to happen next." not sure what is meant by that but let's hope it is for peace, less stress, calm and harmony.

On release, Pantone also added to the colour Classic Blue it's own soundtrack and fabric, a tea and a scent. A collective sensory experience, the music was nostalgic, the fabric velvety, the tea elegant with citrus notes and the fragrance costal with sea breeze.

Classic blue can mean different things to different people, in Greek it is believed to ward off evil but in Arab countries and Latin America it can be associated with mourning !!! Whatever it is I love blue, it is one of my favourite colours, easy to wear and a shade that can be achieved from plants dyes making it also a sustainable, eco friendly colour too. Classic Blue saturated the catwalk and creations by top designers Celine, Burberry, Balenziaga, Armani, Ackermann and Gucci flowed down the runway. It is a hot colour as they say in fashion and was used not only as the main outfit but also as pops of colour throughout.
